~ GROW INSTRUCTIONS ~

Depth: Nick the seed coat with a file before sowing, cover by 1/2".

Sprout Time: 7-20 days

Starting Indoors: Start in containers 6-8 weeks before last spring frost. Sow in sterile germinating mix and keep at 65-70°F.

Starting Outdoors: Direct sow after last frost.

When to Set Outside: After all danger of frost has passed.

Love in a Puff is a fast-growing vine that is great in containers and the ground–draping over dark-leaved plants, climbing teepees, and thriving in hot summer weather. Provide support in containers such as a trellis or obelisk and enjoy the hidden treasure of black round seeds marked with a perfect heart inside each green balloon-shaped seed capsule.

Water Use: High Water Use

Watering Details: Keep moist—1+" per week may be necessary, but do not allow to remain soggy.

Soil pH: Not particular about soil pH.

Fertilizer: Mix in a couple of inches of compost or an organic granular fertilizer in late spring.

~ CARE INSTRUCTIONS ~

Love in a puff balloon vine needs full sun in well-drained soil. It is a useful annual in United States Department of Agriculture zones 8 to 11. In the lower zones, it performs as an annual. Sow seed indoors in late winter to early spring and plant outdoors after hardening off the seedlings when all danger of frost has passed. Water the plant deeply and then allow it to dry between waterings once established. Growing love in a puff may need a little help as the plant begins to scrabble up your chosen support, but once the plant produces numerous stems, they twine together and create a scaffold of their own. Allow the fruits to dry completely on the vine before harvesting them for seed. This is a fun plant that will liven up the landscape with the quirky, little lanterns decorating your yard.
